This is Ney Lopez, the owner and founder of my gym- Gimnasio Ney Lopez. I’ve gotten to know him recently. Sometimes, we’re having lunch next door at the same time. He went to the summer Olympics twice representing Colombia in weight lifting. In 1956, he competed in Melbourne, Australia when he was 27 years old. In 1960, he competed in Rome, Italy. For at least one year, he was the weight lifting champion in Colombia. He’s a very friendly guy. He’s 83 years old. Today, in the gym he was using a sledge and chisel, trying to get an old piece of iron out of the concrete floor. He’s still quite active and pretty strong and fit. I like the gym. It’s small and not very modern, but workable. I know a lot of the regulars by now. I have to be careful that I don’t visit with people too long, or my workouts take a lot longer. It’s one of the things that I do at least 5 days a week, sometimes 6. I usually work out from about 7 a.m. to 8 to 8:30 a.m.
