Feria de Cali
At last, I’m trying to do a few posts. This photo is of the salsa group, Grupo Niche, with the larger than life size figure of Jairo Varela, the director of the musical group who recently passed away. With my press pass, I was able to move around and get photos of the first day’s parade. It started late like most things in Colombia. It was long. There were salsa dancers from many salsa academies. They danced and performed as they made their way down the long parade route. It was hot and the dancers were very hot, frequently drinking water from plastic bags and pouring the cold water over their heads and on their feet. There were also three salsa bands in the parade. Los Van Van wasn’t represented unfortunately. The day was a good start to the weeklong salsa festival.
