Last week, I went downtown to see a free concert in Pioneer Square Plaza by Pink Martini. They’re a great group that I have seen in concert many times. They’re from Portland, Oregon. They used to have one lead singer- China Forbes. A year ago, she had throat surgery so another singer was used, Storm Large. Large was a popular entertainer with her own band. Now, Thomas Lauderdale, the director of the group, uses both singers. They usually sing separately, but this night they sang a song or two together. They both have incredible voices. The group played for an hour and a half. Another treat was a performance by the grandchildren of the original Von Trapp family singers. Lauderdale brought them on stage to sing a couple of songs, including the “yodeling song” from the movie, the Sound of Music. It was a great night and after early showers, the rain held off, thankfully, for the entire evening.
